      1. Which industrialized country, besides the U.S. doesn't provide universal health care?
        1. France
        2. Australia
        3. Chile
        4. Costa Rica
        1. Okay this is my last trick question. All of these countries provide basic health care to all citizens. Plus Costa Rica and Chile aren't even industrialized countries, but they still manage. Of all industrialized countries, the U.S. is the only one with substantial populations without access to health care.

      2. Which country's system is closest to true socialized medicine?
        1. Switzerland
        2. Britain
        3. Canada
        4. France
        1. Health care is free for all citizens and is paid for by taxes and some insurance contributions. The government effectively runs the services too, hospitals and medical professionals. Overall, Brits pay 60% less per person than Americans, and the WHO ranks them well ahead of the U.S. in terms of health care.

      3. Which country is based on a social insurance system?
        1. Canada
        2. Britain
        3. Switzerland
        4. France
        1. The Canadian government picks up the tab for health insurance, but the doctors and hospitals are mostly private.

      4. Which country manages to cover all citizens on private insurance?
        1. Canada
        2. France
        3. Britain
        4. Switzerland
        1. Through government regulation and subsidy, Switzerland manages to get all citizens covered under private plans. The government requires companies to offer a basic plan at a set price to all citizens. Individuals can opt to buy more extensive coverage. It's a bit more expensive than other European models, but it works.

      5. Which system most resembles Medicare?
        1. Britain
        2. Canada
        3. France
        4. Switzerland
        1. Medicare and the Canadian system both work on the social insurance principal, where the government provides insurance, but patients are treated in private facilities.

      6. Which country's system most closely resembles U.S. Veterans' Health Admin.?
        1. France
        2. Canada
        3. Britain
        4. Switzerland
        1. The government provides health insurance to veterans and runs the health facilities they go to, just like in Britain.

      7. If Congress passes it's current plans excluding the public option, it would most resemble?
        1. Switzerland
        2. Canada
        3. France
        4. Britain
        1. Remember Switzerland uses subsidies and regulation to get citizens covered under private insurance? Congress is looking at basically doing that. Requiring most companies to provide insurance, and subsidies to citizens left out. Congress would also disallow the practices of exclusion and recision based on pre-existing conditions.

      8. If congress passes it's current plans including the public option, it would resemble...
        1. Switzerland
        2. Canada
        3. Britain
        4. France
        1. The public option would be kind of like Canada's socialized insurance, but it would work alongside private insurance, Veterans' care and Medicare. Therefore it would be more mixed. France has several large public insurance providers, which cover most people's insurance. Private insurance companies are also there to provide services above and beyond. France ranked #1 on the WHO list of health care systems. It is very interesting and will be the subject of a future post for sure.

      9. If someone says they oppose reform because government can't do anything, what do you say?
        1. 1)Sir, many governments help create excellent health care
        2. 2)Don't you mean you don't believe in the American gov.?
        3. 3)Yeah!! I want my country back!!
        4. 4)Palin 2012!!
        1. Answers 1 would be factually correct, answer 2 would be a pretty good assumption, but if you don't care about facts, go ahead and shout 3 and 4.
