      1. When lifting, you should
        1. bend your back and bend your knees.
        2. bend your knees and keep you back straight.
        3. bend your back and keep your knees locked.
        4. bend your knees and your back.
        1. Proper Lifting Techniques

Squat to lift and lower. Do not bend at the waist. Keep you low back bowed in while bending over. Keep the weight as close to you as possible. Bow your back in and raise up with your head first. If you must turn, turn with your feet, not your body. Never jerk or twist! Put the weight down by keeping your low back bowed in. Keep you feet apart, staggered if possible. Wear shoes with non-slip soles.

      2. When working in front of the computer, you should
        1. slouch in your chair to make yourself more comfortable.
        2. work long hours without taking breaks.
        3. take breaks and stretch often.
        4. take a nap every hour.
        1. Try and ensure your computer work is interspersed with other jobs. Rotate activity to avoid long periods of time in front of the screen. Short frequent breaks are much more effective in reducing muscle fatigue than taking longer breaks less often. During your breaks: DO - Get out of your seat, stretch your legs, arch your back, walk around for a couple of minutes. DON'T - remain seated at your desk.

      3. When sleeping, you should
        1. Sleep on your back or on your side with a good pillow.
        2. Sleep on your stomach with a leg up and head turned.
        3. Fall asleep on the sofa while watching TV.
        4. Sleep standing up.
        1. No matter what position you lie in, the pillow should be under your head, but not your shoulders, and should be a thickness that allows your head to be in a normal position.

Try to sleep in a position which helps you maintain the curve in your back (such as on your back with a pillow under your knees or a lumbar roll under your lower back; or on your side with your knees slightly bent). Do not sleep on your side with your knees drawn up to your chest. You may want to avoid sleeping on your stomach, especially on a saggy mattress, since this can cause back strain and can be uncomfortable for your neck.

Select a firm mattress and box spring set that does not sag. If necessary, place a board under your mattress. You can also place the mattress on the floor temporarily if necessary. If you've always slept on a soft surface, it may be more painful to change to a hard surface. Try to do what's most comfortable for you.

      4. A vertebra in your spine is misaligned and interferes with your nervous system, is a
        1. a pulled muscle.
        2. subluxation.
        3. dislocation.
        4. stiffness.
        1. In a painfree spine, the 24 vertebrae plus the sacrum and coccyx bone normally stack on top of one another in a centered alignment. Life experiences of all kinds impose forces of movement that often move one or more vertebrae away from this ideal, centered alignment. This misalignment of one vertebrae in relation to the next is called a subluxation. A subluxation can cause pain, because when the bones move they press on nerves that exit out holes provided by the interface between two adjacent vertebrae.

      5. Does bad posture cause back pain?
        1. yes, it causes back pain
        2. no, but it can make back pain worse
        1. The importance of balance and structure is even more important when it comes to our spine and the 24 moving vertebrae of the spinal column which house spinal cord. The vertebrae while designed to protect the spinal cord, often, instead pinches it sending pain, numbness, tingling or loss of function to varying parts of the body.

Good posture involves training your body to stand, walk, sit and lie in positions where the least strain is placed on supporting muscles and ligaments during movement or weight-bearing activities. Proper posture keeps bones and joints in the correct alignment so that muscles are being used properly; helps decrease the abnormal wearing of joint surfaces that could result in arthritis; decreases the stress on the ligaments holding the joints of the spine together; prevents the spine from becoming fixed in abnormal positions; prevents fatigue because muscles are being used more efficiently, allowing the body to use less energy; prevents strain or overuse problems;prevents backache and muscular pain; in addition to contributing to a good appearance.
